A GOOD week for New Hartley Juniors saw them move a step closer to the title and reach the Durham FA County Cup semi-final.
In a snow storm last Tuesday at South Shields a four-goal blast from striker Ryan Drane and one from Tom Devitt saw them beat Harton & Westoe in 5-2 the league
Then on Saturday, Hartley made the long trip to Redcar for the Durham County Cup semi final, in a repeat of last year’s final in which Hartley won.
A dour game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and then extra time.
After two hours of no goals it went to penalties and unbelievably both sides scored their first five, with Hartley netting through Micky Dunworth, Jimmy Scott, Elliott Tate, Dean Briggs and Nathan Watt.
Then the first sudden death kick saw Kyle Barnard save in the Hartley goal before Devitt stepped up to put Hartley into the final next moth against Ryhope CW.
Hartley coach John Maley said: “It was a really poor game and came as no surprise when it ended 0-0 as neither side looked like scoring.
“We fielded a bit of an under-strenghth team due to injuries and were delighted to net all six spot kicks to see us through.”
