BLYTH Rangers Valencia learnt from the previous week’s 2-1 defeat to Wideopen in the league and their determination to avenge that in the NEYD Divisional Cup was successful as they won 1-0.
Blyth’s Alex Robertson pulled of a great save to tip the ball over the bar to keep out Wideopen.
At the other end the keeper had to work hard to deny Ross Laidlaw, Liam Sinkinson and Mitchell Amatt, with the help of his post on one occasion.
Five minutes into the second half, Jack Young hit a cross-shot into the rear from the right and a Wideopen defender’s misplaced header beat his own keeper.
A well deserved lead, and some great individual play and pressure to force the mistake.
A second almost game when man of the match Connor Vincent’s header struck the crossbar, but an excellent team performance, and a determined and well disciplined display.
