Remember, remember the fifth of November

KILLINGWORTH Sporting and Ashington Colliers produced all the fireworks in an enthralling eight-goal thriller at the top of the table.

Liam Callaghan slammed in a treble for Sporting with Michael Bowman getting the other while the Colliers goals were shared between Andrew Carr, Glen Bolton, Wyn Fremlin and David Brown.

There were also eight goals in another bonfire cracker at Seaton Delaval, who ran out 5-3 winners over Ponteland United.

Daniel McGuire struck twice for Delaval and his team-mates Paul Katz, Daniel Thompson and Abu Bakker-Sallin joined him on the scoresheet while United’s young guns had Liam Anderson, Paul Hodgson and Mason Stephenson hit the back of the net in another entertaining end to end game.

Carlisle City’s Craig Cherry and Ashley Pattinson hit first half goals to take the points at Percy Main. Tijan Kah pulled one back, but the Sky Blues moved up to third with games in hand.

At the other end of the table, Walker Central’s Steve Ward fired home to give them the lead at Murton.

Phil Davis added an important second and although Micky Robson pulled one back from the penalty spot, Central held out to take the points and leapfrog their County Durham hosts and out of the danger zone.

Craig Smith, Gavin Hattrick and Stewart Wright were on target for Whitley Bay A as they beat Stocksfield 3-1 in the Kicks Leisure Challenge Cup, with Bruce Vause notching the consolation, while leaders Heaton Stannington won a pulsating Kicks Leisure George Dobbins League Cup clash at Harraby CC 4-2.

Ben Telford netted a double with Gary Yates and Michael Waggett also scoring while Gary Brown and Dan Balmer were the Harraby hit-men.

Craig Malley (2), Chris McDonald (2), Ross Phillips, Craig Watson (pen) Liam Clark and Ray Oshin all fired home for Durham FA Trophy holders Hebburn Reyrolle as they romped into the next round of the competition at Swalwell.

Dan Hill hit a hat-trick for Gateshead Rutherford as they joined them in the draw with a 6-1 romp at Hartlepool Stranton. Joe Hindmarch, Danny Igo and Jack Moulding got the others.

Second Division Harton & Westoe eased through 5-2 at Ebchester Consett while the majority of the league’s clubs were in Northumberland FA Minor Cup action.

The pick of the results saw Steve Hart hit four for Cullercoats in their 11-0 demolition of Shilbottle CW Reserves and Shaun Forster, Robert Nolan and Zack Brogden all hit hat-tricks for Red House Farm in their emphatic 16-0 drubbing of Amble St Cuthbert.

Wallington’s Ashley MacAlpine also bagged a treble in an 8-2 win over North Sunderland and Hexham’s Liam Heenan and Thomas North both netted twice in an 8-2 success at Stobswood United as most of the Northern Alliance sides advanced.
