Robinson goal enough for Spartans Under-17s

In a thrilling encounter Blyth Spartans Under-17s maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win over Newcastle East End, who had started the season with five straight wins.

In a tense first half Blyth slowly came to terms with a strong, physical and determined Newcastle side, and chances were few and far between with the best coming from Newcastle, a powerful shot cleared expertly off the line from the in-form defender James Golding.

However, the second half proved to be a different affair with Blyth taking control, especially in midfield through Jordan Duffy, Steven Doris and Ayrton Browning.

The only goal of game came midway through the second half when Samuel Johnson collected the ball from his own half and beat several men on a run down the left before crossing for the unmarked Alex Robinson to fire into the empty net.
