Blyth AFC captain David Robinson has signed his first contract, which will keep him at the club until the summer 0f 2019.
The Braves are delighted to announce that Robinson becomes the first player to be signed for the 2018-19 season.
Blyth’s skipper has been an integral part of their rise through the non-league pyramid and continues to be a crucial part of the team.
“I’m happy to become a contracted player,” Robinson said. “The managers spoke with me about signing one as they wanted me to be a part of their long-term plans.
“The managers are always telling every player to express themselves on the pitch and in training. We have an excellent group and the managers put their belief in the squad.”
Joint manager Ian Skinner believes Robinson deserved to be rewarded for his loyalty to his home town club.
Skinner said: “David is club captain and leads by example ,both in training and in games. He’s a local lad, who has only been interested in playing for Blyth AFC, despite interest from numerous clubs.
“It’s quite unusual, in the modern game, that a player commits to his home town club and for that reason it was felt that the club should recognise such loyalty.
“It’s always an advantage to ensure that you can secure the services of your better players for the season ahead. It’s something we will be looking to do with more players within the squad. However, as captain, it was felt that David should be the first player we looked to secure for 2018-19.”
The Braves currently sit top of the league and Skinner reiterated just how important Robinson is to Blyth.
“David is an important part of the team and brings a great determination both in an out of possession,” he added. “He’s a typical box-to-box midfielder which is a bit of a dying trade and he also contributes regularly with goals from midfield.”
