Second Cup Final win for Hartley
John Maley Youth Cup FinalNew Hartley 3Darlington RA 1New Hartley Juniors claimed their second trophy of the season when they defeated league champions Darlington RA in the final of the John Maley Youth Cup last Saturday.
The first half belonged to Hartley as they romped into a 3-0 lead before the break.
Top scorer Rhys McLeod put Hartley in front when he rounded the Darlo keeper to squeeze home from a tight angle.
Full back Jack Watson doubled their lead with his first goal of the season, and right on half time Charlie Walker made it 3-0.
In the second half Darlington pulled one back, and although Hartley hit the woodwork twice, the score remained 3-1 at the final whistle.
New Hartley skipper Jonathan Chrisp went up to lift the trophy, named after their club’s late secretary, who spent over 50 years with them.
Meanwhile, the Northern Football League has announced a new training scheme for volunteers at its clubs.
The programme is being run by SMART and will involve sessions covering a range of issues including Health & Safety/Risk Assessment; Food Safety; Fire Safety & Marshalling; First Aid; Customer Service and Control of Hazardous Substances.
Courses started on June 10 and clubs will be approached directly to see if they want to be involved. They have been organised by league treasurer Frank Bell who is chairman of Consett FC.
