Blyth Spartans were held to a 2-2 draw by South Shields in their final pre-season friendly at Croft Park on Saturday.
A brace from Daniel Maguire gave the home side a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half, but Shields made no fewer than eight changes at the break, which invigorated the visitors.
The pulled a goal back through a trialist on the hour mark and after Ryan Hutchinson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area on 77 minutes, Carl Finnigan stepped up to drill home the resultant penalty past Shaun MacDonald.
Blyth had opened the scoring through Maguire when he comfortably placed the ball past a trialist goalkeeper.
And he doubled their advantage on 37 minutes when he rolled the ball into the net from close range after being set up by a trialist midfielder.
Spartans concluded pre-season with a friendly against Whitby on Tuesday.
