Spartans sign Cook following international clearance

BLYTH Spartans have completed the signing of goalkeeper Mark Cook.

The 24-year-old started his career at Newcastle United, before moving to Hartlepool United and upon his release from Victoria Park had a brief trial with the Spartans but took up the option of a short term deal at Gateshead.

He then spent the remainder of that campaign and the following season at Harrogate Town.

Most recently Cook has been playing for Lima-based giants Universitario de Deportes – Peru’s largest club.

Universitario play their home games in an 80,000 capacity stadium and were, until recently, managed by former Newcastle United and Peruvian star Nolberto Solano.

Since his return to the UK ‘Cooky’ has been training with the Spartans with a view to signing and the deal has been agreed following the granting of international clearance.
