Youngsters have been getting footballing tips from a Newcastle United hero.
Former goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek held a session with youngsters from Ashington and Ellington Juniors to pass on skills and knowledge he picked up during his career.
He visited the clubs last week as part of an even put together by ‘Furniture 4 U’ to give children a taste of life as a goalkeeper.
Srnicek said: “If you want to be a goalkeeper you have to love the position, you need to be brave, committed, passionate and also a little crazy.
“I’m here to show the kids the new stuff, instead of just putting them into goals and blasting the ball at them I’m going to be showing them a new style of coaching, positioning, diving and more.”
And the goalkeeper coach at Sparta Prague added: “I’ve visited Newcastle quite a few times since leaving and each time I come back I fall in love with it a bit more. Northumberland is a beautiful place with very friendly people.”
