New Hartley Juniors made it five wins from six league games when they beat an impressive second placed Seaham in a hard fought match on Saturday.
The two sides have produced a player that has went on to play for Liverpool and England, Seaham, once having £20m winger Stuart Downing on their books and Hartley having three times European Cup winner Ray Kennedy come from their team.
Things did not look good for Hartley though as keeper Liam Dodds went off injured after only five minutes with Seaham already hitting the post.
The gloves were handed to defender and skipper Darren Hamilton and Seaham again hit the post moments later.
On 25 minutes the only goal of the game was scored by Hartley striker Ryan Drane in spectacular fashion.
The second half saw Seaham pile on the pressure but found the Hartley defence in top form, protecting their stand-in keeper.
With five minutes to go Seaham were awarded a penalty after Dan Hall was adjudged to have handled, but stand in keeper Hamilton saved brilliantly to ensure Hartley took all three points home.
