BEDLINGTON Terriers FC got their pre-season tour of the US off to a great start with a 4-1 over Niagra United.

It was the home side who scored first though through an own goal when Terriers defender James Novak deflected in a cross.

But Bedlington then found their feet and Brayson found himself one on one with the goalkeeper after being played through by substitute Paddy Atkinson.

Shortly after Richard Flynn headed in the teams second goal from a corner by Novak.

Atkinson turned goal scorer for the teams third goal before Brayson rounded off the four goals towards the end of the 90 minutes.

Niagara were second best throughout the game, struggling to match the team effort and strong passing that the Terriers displayed.

Bedlington’s formula was simple - get the ball wide and deliver into Atkinson and Brayson, who were both strong and nimble in the box.

Despite Niagara taking an early lead, Bedlington gave their hosts an almighty workout with Brayson reaping the awards from the good work throughout the game.

The natural goalscorer showed his pace and accurate finishing in the box. The striker’s first came from a good pass by Atkinson. With the goal straight in front of him, and no definer in sigh, Brayson slotted the ball comfortably past the reach of the goalkeeper Jonathon Bruggeling.

His second came after good work from Chris Phillipson on the wing before crossing into the box for Brayson to tap in and round off an impressive performance.

Despite having most of the chances, Bedlington looked leggy at the back against a pacy Niagara attack. However, Niagara failed to test the backline, with the Terriers defence of Flynn and Peter Snowdon putting in a strong display.

By the time the second and certainly third goals had been scored, Niagara looked a defeated team unable to cope with the strong Bedlngton attacking line.

The second coming from a strong header by Flynn after a corner and the third after another crossed ball from out wide found Paddy Atkinson with the goal at his mercy.

A strong display and a good win for Bedlington as the team head into the second and last game of their US pre season tour against FC Buffalo.
