The likes of former Carlisle United winger Josh Gillies, ex-Newcastle United youngster Lewis McNall and Gateshead stalwart JJ O’Donnell also moved to Northumberland as Blyth aim to put a difficult few years behind them.

Blyth boss Michael Nelson already has 14 players signed on for the upcoming campaign, with more to follow before the start date in August.

And Platten hopes the optimism ahead of the new season will reflect in season tickets sales.

Platten said: “Whether people buy a season ticket or turn up every week, the important thing is that they’re here.

“The commitment is obviously measured by the number of season tickets sold and I hope we might break previous sales records this season.

“The sale of season tickets really does give us an indication of what the commitment of the town is to the football club.”
