Ashington Town Council is giving its support to Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies FC as the club provides healthy activities in the town.
The club, formed in 2013, were runners-up in their first season in the Northumberland County Women’s Football League. This year they are currently second, three points off the leaders but with games in hand.
The club also entered the Women’s FA Cup for the first time this season.
A small grant from the town council has enabled the club to purchase new playing kit.
Alf Marchetti, one of the founding members of the club, said: “We really appreciate support from Ashington Town Council.
“We are proud to represent the town, and with the town’s support hopefully the club will go from strength to strength in the future.”
Player’s representative Danielle Hooker said: “We really thank the town council for the support.”
Team manager John Waugh added: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Ashington Town Council for the sponsorship of the new strips and would welcome members of the council to come along and cheer the lasses on as we enter our final games and attempt to win the league and obtain promotion in only our second season as a club.”
