New Hartley Juniors celebrate winning the league title.

Needing six points from the remaining two games to secure the championship, they beat Shildon and Stockton.

Shildon were first up and they were put to the sword as Hartley ran out 3-0 winners with strikes in the first half from Lewis Xiberras and Ursen Mouanda, with substitute Jay Wilcox completing the scoring five minutes from time.

The Stockton game was a tight affair in front of a large crowd, and It was Hartley who took the lead with Kris Sands scoring from a goalmouth scramble on the half hour.

Stockton levelled after the break, but with 15 minutes remaining it was Sands again who headed home the winner to secure the title.

John Maley, of New Hartley Juniors, said: “Of all the years I’ve been with Hartley this has to be the toughest a trophy has been won by us.

“The standard of the league this season has been of the highest quality, with most teams in the league being a junior club to a Northern League side.

“Full credit to the players and coaches, Jon Sunderland and Phil Hildreth, for this remarkable achievement.”
