A football referee from Wansbeck has netted himself a dream trip to Northern Ireland.
Ashington-born Adam Nichol - who celebrated his 21st birthday last week - will fly out on Saturday as the sole representative from the North East to participate in the Northern Ireland Super Cup, formerly known as the Milk Cup.
And for Adam, who in October will begin a role as a PhD researcher in Sports Science and Sports Coaching, the call up for the week long tournament, will be his highest achievement to date since he began officiating six years ago.
He said: “I was overwhelmed to receive an email from Daniel Meeson at the FA to say I had been selected to referee at the Super Cup.
“I am immensely looking forward to refereeing and representing the English FA at a tournament competed for, by teams from all over the world.
“I would like to thank everybody who has helped me within refereeing and I have no doubt that officiating within challenging matches, will develop me as a match official.”
