Weather continuing to play havoc

ONCE again the overnight frost hit fixtures in the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League.

In the County Minor Cup, Ashington Grand and The Eagle will have to try again this week.

Tynemouth Gunner progressed to the next round against Newcastle Turnpike after a goal-fest, winning 7-5 after extra time.

Scoring for the Gunner was Paul Bonnick (2), Craig Cook, Chris Appleby, Rae Crossland, David Pill and an own goal.

In the JD Marnock Cup, New Delaval and Newsham switched their home game to Newbiggin but still lost 4-0. Tony Messenger led the scoring with a hat-trick, Darren Burn added the other goal.

In division two, league leaders Cowpen Percy Arms had a comfortable 11-0 win at home against basement side the Newsham.

Goals came from hat-tricks for Ian Dawson, Lee Brosnan and Colin Morton. Further goals came from John Pegg and Kyle Walker.

Whitley Bay Fat Ox won 2-0 at home against West Allotment Social Club.

The game was much closer than then score indicates, with the Allotment missing numerous chances to get themselves back into the game. Jed Findley and John Leach were on target for the Fat Ox.
