New Ashington signing Dylan Williamson said as soon as he knew manager Steve Harmison was interested in his services he wanted to link up with the Woodhorn Lane club.

The front runner went straight into the team at Consett on Saturday after making the move from near neighbours Bedlington Terriers.

Ashington born Williamson was with the club in his earlier career.

“When I was 16 or 17 I played a handful of times as a substitute, although I never actually started,” said the 24-year-old forward.

“I’m looking forward to my time here. With Steve coming in as the new manager coupled to the building of the new stand, things are looking up and Ashington are a club going forward.

“As soon as I knew Steve was interested I wanted to come straight away and had no hesitation in signing.”

Harmison said: “Dylan is very fast and direct. He’s always been someone who I have had an eye on and we have brought him in to give us something we didn’t have and which we lack in the team, a bit of pace. That’s what we like about him.

“He is a young lad and fits in with what we are trying to build and looking to achieve here.

“He’s perfect and is a good signing for the club.”
