Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies put up a great display against higher league opposition Lowick but went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat in their pre-season friendly.
Ashington started well and Laura Fairley went close with a shot whilst an effort from Laura Jobson was well saved by the home keeper.
The hosts picked up their game and had a good spell in which Stewart and Scott both went agonisingly close, but on 25 minutes the home side took the lead when Stewart fired home from just inside the box after Ashington had failed to clear.
Three minutes later, ex-Ashington FC player Georgia Latto drove in from the edge of the area to double the lead.
In the second half Ashington played some really good football with Danielle Hooker and Jobson both going close, whilst at the other end keeper Jade Cappleman made a couple of good saves to keep the score down.
Following three successive corners, the latter from Fairley saw Corrie Murphy stab home to reduce the deficit.
Rebecca Caldow then hit the bar with a stunning shot and Jobson had an effort cleared off the line as the home goal was put under pressure in the final few minutes of the game as Ashington searched for the equaliser but they could not get the goal they deserved.
