STRIKER Gary Rennison scored twice as Woodhorn Lane returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia at the Hirst Welfare.
Rennison struck a timely double with his second effectively sealing victory over the visitors.
In the fifth minute, a good ball through from Paul Foalle found ex Ashington number nine Steve Green who was making his debut, send a strong header over the bar then build up play involving Rennison and Foalle ended with Green’s blistering shot going narrowly wide of the target.
After 36 minutes, great football from the home side saw Green slot through for Rennison whose weak shot was easily gathered by the visiting keeper.
Early in the second period, a free kick from outside the box by Foalle hit the wall and came to nothing before in the 51st minute, Rennison broke the deadlock, scrambling home from six yards following a corner by Scott Fulton.
Six minutes later, it was 2-0 after Lane manager Brian Middleton had instructed Fulton to take a 25 yards free-kick with the player stepping up to hit a stunning effort into the top corner.
Philadelphia reduced the deficit on 63 minutes when Lane keeper Steve Carrick tipped an effort onto the bar with the visitors number ten prodding home the rebound.
However, with six minutes remaining, a through ball from Austin Ramsden found Rennison who beat the offside trap and stabbed home to make it 3-1.
On Saturday, November 24, Woodhorn Lane are away to Philadelphia where kick off is 10.30am.
