NEIL Killeen’s dream of unearthing a new speed king to follow in the footsteps of Graham Onions or Stephen Harmison have been severely hit by the appalling weather.
The former Durham cricketer enlisted six grounds to stage trials for a ‘Speedstar’ challenge – but was left cursing the rain affected north east yet again when a third venue out of four had to be cancelled.
So far, visits to Gateshead Fell, Ashington and Annfield Plain have all had to be postponed, although the event at Ashington has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 7.
“We did manage to get a couple of bowlers through after the Sunderland venue,” said Killeen.
“We go to Brandon this coming weekend and Middlesbrough the following Saturday, but it’s totally frustrating.”
