Martial arts group seeking new members

THE area’s only dedicated Muay Thai (eight limbs) training group are on the lookout for new members.

The Fit2Fight group, based in East Hartford & District Community Centre, Scott Street, East Hartford, has been in operation since January of this year.

Recently it was credited by being accepted into the UK Muay Thai Federation and had three members as representatives at the Lee Smith Testimonial Muay Thai Interclub in Spennymoor, when each schooled their opponent, showing more superior skills.

One member, Bajanka Yearman, won a Pride of Northumberland award for her commitment to martial arts. She also coaches at her local kick-boxing club in Newbiggin.

The club trains three times a week – Tuesday 7pm, Thursday 6.30pm, and Saturday 10.30am. For juniors (under 14s) there is a session at 6pm on Tuesdays.

In addition, starting Thursday, at 6.30pm, there is a guest instructor, Cristien Scott, who has trained and coached Muay Thai for years having studied and been mentored by Master Bill Judd, the founder of the KO gyms based in London.

Muay Thai includes circuit training and Thai yoga, as well as teaching.
