A youngster was given the opportunity of a lifetime when he was selected as the England mascot for the Second Investec Test against Sri Lanka at Headingly last month.
Daniel Kelly, from Cramlington, met all the players from both England and Sri Lanka’s squads and helped the captains with the toss.
Mascots are selected from schools and clubs partaking in the Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine programme.
Daniel saw England dismiss Sri Lanka for 257 before England reached 36-0 at the close. He also got to witness Stuart Broad becoming the first England bowler to take two hat-tricks in Test cricket, and only the fourth bowler of all time.
Daniel, 11, plays cricket for the Richard Coates Middle School team and his favourite player is fellow left-hander Alastair Cook.
