A festival of pool at finals night

THE BVPA sponsored by Goschen Street Garage & Union Private Hire entered its final week with all the knockout competitions being played to a finish over four nights at Blyth Sports & Social Club.

On the Monday it was the three-a-side, and in the the first semi final Sports A first team beat their second team 5-2.

In the other semi, Bedlington Station’s second team beat Annitsford Irish 5-3.

The final saw the Sports A take a 3-0 lead only for Bedlington to level by winning the next three frames, the next two frames were shared which meant the match went to a deciding frame which the Sports A won.

On Tuesday it was the doubles, which saw last year’s BVPL winners Chris Gill and Andy Robertson (Bedlington Station) knockout former champions David Hewitson and Phil Chadwick (Newsham Side Club) 4-2.

In the other semi, Ian Carr and Stuart Taylor (Comrades B) won a deciding frame against Phil Bell and Eugene Healy (Bedlington Station).

The final saw Comrades B race into a 4-1 lead only for Bedlington to stage a remarkable comeback and win four frames in a row to take the title.

The penultamate night of the season saw the doubles. In the last four, Jason Watson beat Gary Wilson and Chris Gill beat Chris O’Neill to guarantee an all Bedlington Station final.

The first two frames were shared before Gill won the next three to win.

The final night of the season was dedicated to the Superleague Cup semi finals and final.

In the first semi-final BVPA Superleague champions Sports Club A took on runners-up Bedlington Station.

The match was close with the scores tied after eight frames, but Sports A then took the next two singles and the first scotch doubles to make the final.

In the other semi, the Percy Arms shared the first few frames but then pulled out in front against Comrades B and sealed the victory 7-3.

The presentation then took place with sponsor Kevin Brock handing out trophies and prize money.

The crowd then stayed on to watch the final which was played on two tables.

Percy Arms took control by winning the first four. Sports A did win the next frame but is was only a brief hope of a comeback as Percy took the next three to seal a resounding 7-1 victory and stop Sports A completing a league and cup double.

The BVPA AGM will take place on Tuesday, June 12, at 7.30pm, in Blyth Sports Club.

The meeting for all new teams to register for the 2012-13 season will also be at the Sports Club on Tuesday, June 26, at 7.30pm.
