A disastrous start by Ashington saw them 22-0 down after 20 minutes as BBOB ran in four tries against a hopeless Ashington defence who repeatedly missed tackles.

Ashington began to claw their way back into the game and number 8 Chris Johnstone crashed over for a try from 5 metres out after Rosser was adjudged held up over the line.

BBOB took advantage of another missed tackle to extend their lead to 27-5 before strong runs from Watson and Newman saw fly half Johnny Acaster ghost over for a try converted by Rosser

Unfortunately Ash put themselves under pressure from the restart and a charged down kick saw the BBOB centre cross for the home sides fifth try of the half to give BBOB a 34-12 half time lead.

Ash started the second half strongly with replacement flanker Dan Johnson adding energy to the back row.

A determined kick and chase from Liam Peel and Cory Whitworth saw Ash awarded a penalty 7 metres out. Chris Johnstone crashed over for his second try as Ash began to claw their way back into the game.

Fullback Cory Whitworth produced two pacey sidestepping runs one beating 4 BBOB floundering tacklers to put Ash in attacking positions.

Ash took advantage of one of those runs and Michael Harrigan drove over from a 5 metre scrum, to bring the score back to 34-22 with 15 minutes to play and the visiting supporters dreaming of a fight back.

However it was BBOB who scored the final try of the game after a further missed tackle in the centre to give a final score 41-22

Ash finished strongly with runs from Watson, who had another outstanding game, and Groves and produced a much more determined second half with all the forwards carrying strongly, but had to be satisfied with a bonus point for scoring four tries.

Ashington first team are without a game Saturday 8 November.

Training is Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm, new players are welcome.
