Ashington Rugby Club completed their pre-season warm-up games with a 27-7 loss to Ponteland, who this year will play in the division above them.
This was a promising club performance, especially as the seconds, including three colts, came from behind to beat Ponteland second team 35-34.
The first league game of the season is at the Rec on Saturday, September 5, kick-off 3pm against Whitley Bay Rockcliff.
The game follows the club’s first Rugby World Cup event, Rugby Laws Made Easy, on Friday, September 4, with former World Cup and international referee Dave Pearson.
His presentation will be followed by a question and answer session and sports quiz.
The World Cup itself kicks off on Friday, September 18, with a ‘South Sea Island’ event at the club as England play Fiji at 8pm.
The match, along with all England’s games and other key matches, will be featured on the club’s big screen.
