The Barnesbury CC held their presentation day at Gallagher Park in Bedlington at the weekend, where Irene Webster handed over the inaugural George Webster Memorial Cups.
These were awarded to riders in the club’s BMX competition as well as the Muddy Monday prizes.
Special thanks went to CJ Performance Cycles as all riders who took part in any of the events received a goody bag.
George Webster was a local man who instigated the Friends of Gallagher Park. George and Stephen McIntosh obtained funding and secured support from local councillors to build the track in 2010-11.
Without the build Barnesbury CC would not be coaching at the park today or Northumberland CC would not have a development plan for the park for cycle use.
George’s aim was in tandem with the club’s – to develop cycling potential, regardless of age, ability, sex, religion.
To date the club has organised numerous events at local, regional and national significance at the park and progressed youth coaching to a weekly activity.
