Blyth’s unbeaten run came to an end in the semi -final of the County Cup against League 1 side Novos, but they were not disgraced by the defeat and gave their opponents a tough game.

Blyth’s cause was not helped by a succession of injuries, starting in the first few minutes when promising second row McGlen was carried off with a nasty looking knee injury.

The first half hour of the game was fairly even, both sides missing penalty attempts before Novos took the lead with a converted try following several drives from their forwards.

Reece got Blyth on the score board with a penalty before the visitors stretched the lead before half time with an excellent through their lively backs.

The second half started badly for the home side losing a man to the sin bin and Novos took advantage of the extra man to score again through their backs.

The home side didn’t give up and Calvert capitalised on a mistake and kicked through the defence to score, converted by Reece to bring the score back to 10 - 19.

Novos then hit back and scored in the corner. but Blyth were not finished and after a period of pressure by the forwards were rewarded with a fine try scored and converted by Reece.

Near the end of the game Novos scored again to make the final score 17 - 36.
