Blyth lose semi-final to Ponteland by one point

Blyth suffered Senior Plate heartbreak with a narrow 25-24 defeat to Ponteland in the semi-final played at Newcastle Falcons' Kingston Park.

Despite missing four of the regular front five and having no recognised scrum-half, Blyth started off in a confident mood, forcing a penalty in the first minutes which was kicked for the corner.
From the resulting lineout second row turned prop Karl Rose crashed over, with Devon Reece adding the conversion.
Ponteland hit back with a catch and drive try of their own before adding a penalty to take the lead 8-7.
Blyth regained the lead with another try from a lineout, this time Smith going over. Reece kicked the conversion from wide out.
Twelve minutes into the second half Blyth lost Long to the sin bin and Ponteland took advantage of the extra man to score between the posts to regain the lead.
The lead changed hands again when Blyth scored from another catch and drive.
But Ponteland hit back with a score in between the posts and then added a penalty, but Blyth were not to be outdone and Liam Allen scored a super try, beating several defenders . However, the conversion which would have won the game was missed.
With time almost up Ponteland made a rare error at a lineout on the Blyth line and gave away a penalty which was taken quickly and the ball moved up field, unfortunately the Blyth fly-half elected to kick to the corner and although the kick was good the referee blew for full-time
