A small group of Blyth Running Club juniors recently travelled to Sheffield to compete in the Northern Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Heather MacDonald was the only athlete in action on Saturday and was taking part in the 300m, and she stormed through her heat in 43.32s to qualify for the final. In the final, she was in third position around the final bend but was just pipped on the line to finish fourth.

On Sunday, Heather was competing with Ellie Morris in the High Jump. In a high-quality field, Heather cleared 1.50m, but was unable to progress further before Ellie cleared 1.55m on her second attempt which was enough to claim the silver medal.

Dale Turner was running the 200m and qualified for the final, where he finished in fourth place, setting a personal best time.

Josh Fiddaman (pictured) was running in the 800m and after conserving energy in the heat it was soon time for his final. After 500m Josh made a break, establishing a commanding lead which he never relinquished to take the gold medal in 2:02.15. Josh is believed to be Blyth’s first ever Northern Champion at any discipline.
