Four athletes from Blyth Running Club took part in the Virgin Money London Marathon recently, and all finished inside the four-hour mark.
Dave Bradley was the first Blyth runner back, followed by Paul Knight, Karen Singleton and Martin Scott.
Then three days later, the club had 48 finishers in the last race of their Winter Series, running over a distance of 2.5 miles.
Simon Sellars, having finished last in the previous race, stormed to victory by almost a minute from Sam Dodd, with Aynsley Herron a few seconds further back in third.
All three were among the 25 who recorded season’s bests.
Phillippa Edwards, in fifth place, continued her trend of improving in every race.
Fastest on the night was Lee Cuthbertson while the fastest female was Heather Christopher.
Next up was the annual Good Friday Relays, organised by Elswick Harriers, and the U13 boys took centre stage.
The race was won by Taylor Glover with Josh Fiddaman third and ably supported by Connor Marshall they also took the prize for first team.
The senior men had two teams, finishing 15th and 32nd, with Brad Clough recording the fastest time by a Blyth runner, the ladies had one team who finished in 24th position.
At the first North East Grand Prix meeting at Monkton Stadium, Blyth had over 20 athletes competing.
The first race of the evening, was the North East 10K Track Championships, 25 laps of the track.
In the ladies’ race, Heather Christopher won silver in a club record time and is now ranked second in the country in her age group.
In the men’s race, Jake Jansen smashed the club record and finished in a commendable fifth place against more experienced athletes.
Dave Swalwell, Charlotte Ramsey and Alice Dungworth were all competing in the 1500M and all set PB’s for the distance, with Swalwell now ranked second in the country in his age group.
Josh Fiddaman was an easy winner of the U13 boys’ 1500M and is now leading the rankings in the north east, while James Young also set a club record in his 1500M race.
