Blyth U15s in clinical form as they dominate Ashington

Blyth RFC Under-15s put up 54 points against Ashington JW RFC U16s at the weekend.

The visitors put Ashington under pressure from the off.

A great tackle from Morgan Shepard helped pin them in to their 22 and good rucking from Richard Harland and Christopher Paterson allowed swift movement from Jay Robinson, Tom Marshall and Kieran Colwell to put Adam Simmons through to score in the corner. Tom Marshall was unable to convert.

Blyth extended their lead to 12-0 when Robinson, Marshall and Colwell combined to cut through the defence where Callum Atkinson made an outstanding run to to set up Colwell who scored under the posts. Tom Marshall added the conversion.

Atkinson again made a break before Robinson timed a perfect pass to Colwell who made it 17-0.

It was not long before Blyth had another try, this time through Paterson.

Ashington came out strong after the break and ran at the Blyth defence, who held their nerve and put some massive tackles on the much bigger Ashington team, with Atkinson, Morgan Shepherd, Harland, Paterson and Elliott Moore stood out.

Adam Simmonds made a fantastic break deep into the Ashington 22, where the pack made phase after phase of attack with intelligent passing from scrum-half Jake Bowman, who put Moore through to score. Jake Bowman added the conversion.

Blyth added further tries through Robinson, Atkinson (2), Marshall and Owen Nicholson before Ashington were rewarded with a great try to make the final score 54-5 in Blyth’s favour.
