Cramlington Rockets’ captain has been selected for a tour to Africa but needs help to fund the trip.
Daniel Caparros-Midwood has been selected for Great Britain Student Rugby League’s forthcoming trip to South Africa this month.
Fresh from lifting the North East Men’s Plate with Cramlington Rockets as captain, the Newcastle University student needs to raise £1,500 to make the trip, which is self-funded.
Daniel and his team mates will play games against both the South Africa Students and full national team.
Daniel said: “It’s been great being a part of the Rockets. As well as last month’s Plate win, one of the best highlights of my Rockets career was winning the playoff to be promoted to the NE Premier Division two years ago.”
Originally from a rugby union background, he started playing league when he arrived in Newcastle and since then his international career has gone from strength to strength, representing first North East Students and then England Students.
In that time, he helped his country win the 4 Nations with victories over Scotland, Ireland and Wales and that led to his selection by Great Britain Students.
“I’m incredibly happy to be selected as I’m still relatively new to the sport, having only started playing in my second year of university. I’ve worked hard to increase my knowledge of the game and really concentrated on improving my fitness and strength this season whilst maintaining my studies,” added Daniel.
