Cramlington Table Tennis Club is holding a sponsored event at The Venue in the town’s Manor Walks with the dual purpose of raising funds and promoting the sport.

Members will take part in a non-stop five-hour marathon of continuous games of table tennis on Sunday, April 13.

Club chairman Alan Hedley said “We are grateful to The Venue for allowing us to hold our event in their premises and welcome all shoppers to pop in and see the action.

“Club members will be on a central table where they will be trying to play as many games as possible from 10am to 3pm.

“There will be other tables available where any shoppers interested in trying table tennis can have a go.

“A popular attraction is always the ‘Beat the Robot challenge’, where there is an opportunity to see how many balls you can return in a set time.”

From a humble start in May 1995 the club, based at Sporting Club Cramlington, has become the largest in the region and meets on Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings.

It is a registered charity and aims to promote and encourage the playing of table tennis within Cramlington and the surrounding areas.

It welcomes members at all levels of ability and strives to promote participation for beginners right through to top class players.
