After a successful first year, Cramlington Rockets will be running the Cramlington Learning Village (CLV) Rugby Academy for the 2015-16 academic year.
The sixth-form programme last year saw 19 players study at CLV while receiving specialist rugby coaching from Rockets Community coaches Steven Beaty and Danny Gilroy.
After an inaugural year that saw all involved come on in leaps and bounds, both parties were keen to build upon the solid foundation that had been created.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue to work with the CLV and build upon the work we did last year,” said academy head coach, Steven Beaty.
“As well as developing some more experienced players, we were able to help a number of them take their first steps into rugby league, creating an environment for them to really thrive.
“By the end of the season we had a number of players who had made their debut for the Rockets second team, some who had gained experience as community coaches, and in Matty Gordon an England Lionhearts international after he toured Italy, playing the national side’s U19s.
“As a result, Rockets Community won the North East ‘Outstanding Contribution to School Rugby League’, which was a huge honour and the icing on the cake.
“After such a good first year, we are excited to see how much we can achieve in year two.”
