NINE rugby league clubs took part in a special 9’s tournament organised by Cramlington Rockets in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.

The tournament took place just a week after remembrance Sunday in order to raise awareness and much needed funds for the charity.

More than 100 players descended on Winlaton Rugby Club on a cold winter’s morning but it did not take long for the action to heat up.

All teams played out some great contests throughout the day with the eventual winners being north east Premier title holders Gateshead Storm after they defeated Jarrow Vikings 16-10 in the final.

Event organiser Jordan Robinson said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported this event; the fact that we have raised £345 for this special charity just goes to show how great the north east rugby league community is.

“This charity is something that is very close to my heart and I hope this is just the first of many events; I would also like to give a special thank you to the two referees on the day who must have refereed for nearly three hours nonstop.”
