This October school half term sees the award-winning Rockets Community continue its meteoric rise since launching last year.

The school and community-based arm of rugby league club Cramlington Rockets will be holding one of its Rockets Camps into the Alnwick area for the first time.

Over the last year, Rockets Community has expanded the number of partner schools they have and now include many in the Alnwick area.

The camp will be held at Longhoughton First School on October 26 and 27, from 10am to 3pm, at an introductory offer of only £15 for both days.

Suitable for all abilities and experiences, the multi-sports camp is for five to 13-year-olds and features football, rugby and other sports and games.

The Rockets Camps have become a firm fixture in the school holidays for children in Northumberland, with attendance more than doubling this year.

In May, the team smashed their own north east record when 86 children attended, a figure that would not look out of place when compared to the equivalent camps held by Super League teams.

So impressed were North East Rugby League with the team’s work, they received this year’s ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award.

“We are thrilled that Alnwick is the first place we take the Rockets Camps on the road,” said community manager, Steven Beaty.

“We have a number of kids who come all the way down from Alnwick already and as word has spread, interest has exploded.

“There really is something for everyone at Rockets Camps plus we have loads of fun, which is just as important.”
