Davie and Fletcher secure finals place in Whillis trophy

ROUND six of the Ian Whillis Memorial Trophy sponsored by Coors Brewers took place at Bedlington Station WMC on Monday night.

Darren Shields, Graham Fletcher, John Watson and Alan Davie would fight it out at the end of the evening.

Shields had to see off Micky Hoffman, Lee Williams and Robbie Parker to set up his final to play Fletcher who got a first round bye before gaining success over Adam Young and Andy Hornsby.

The second final was Watson and Davie, with Watson facing Phil Tawney, Mark McNally and Jack Lyons on his way through.

Davie made the most of a first round bye before tackling two powerful opponents in Phil Borthwick and Graeme Stoddart.

Davie set off in the first leg with 134, 125 and 120 scores to take a 1-0 lead and he never looked back as he took a 3-0 win.

Fletcher and Shields fought out the second final with the former winning it 3-1.

The Milton Anderson Memorial Trophy for ladies also took place on Monday with Caroline Welsh and Helen Dobson both qualifying for finals night.

Welsh saw off Julie Morrison and Carol Rydz while Dobson beat Joy Wanless, Maureen Lyons and Donna Rydz.
