Disabled riders in national championship

ELEVEN riders who took part in a qualifying event held at the Pegasus Centre in Tramwell will be heading to the RDA National Championships in Hartbury, Gloucestershire, in July.

The qualifying event attracted 14 riders with disabilities from across the north east, including seven based at the Pegasus Centre near Morpeth.

The 11 qualifyiers included five from Morpeth Riding for the Disabled Group.

One of those from the group who qualified was Gayle Bloomfield, national champion in the Restricted Grade 2 Class at the Winter National Para Championships riding her horse Bartie.

She has also qualified for the Para Dressage Championships at Hickstead in June.

Other Pegasus Centre riders who qualified were Jess Southwick, Gillian McHale, Robyn Rowntree and Kim Chapman.

Pegasus Centre manager Martin Peagam said: “We are delighted that the event has been such a success.

“It is of course particularly pleasing to everyone at the Pegasus Centre that so many of our riders have qualified for the national championships.

“It is certainly a tribute to the commitment and dedication shown by the riders and to the wonderful support they receive from staff and volunteers.”
