Chris Dobey was beaten 6-2 by world number one Michael van Gerwen in the final of Event Five of the Players Championship in Milton Keynes.
The Bedlington darts ace was playing in his first PDC final and beat the likes of Dave Chisnall and James Wilson along the way.
“I was over the moon to reach another final on the ProTour,” he said. “I felt that I played well all day. I was throwing well, averaging well, and most of all, finishing well.”
‘Hollywood’ managed to hold his nerve in a last-leg decider in the semi-finals against Ryan Searle, checking out on 112 to book his place in the final.
In the final, he averaged almost 110, but van Gerwen raced into a 4-0 lead which laid the foundations for the victory. Dobey, with the help of a 10-dart leg, got back to 4-2, but the Dutchman went on to claim the win.
