Double success for Newbiggin boxers

Newbiggin Boxing Club travelled to Manchester with two boxers to take part in the Northside ABC boxing tournament.

Making his debut in amateur boxing was Newbiggin’s Mason McGuigan who took on Northside first timer Dean Scott.

McGuigan took control from the first bell and looked very relaxed and calm for his first outing, taking all three rounds comfortably to land his first win.

Next up was Newbiggin’s Rhys Harmison against the very capable, Jordan Walsh, also of the reputable Northside club.

Coming off the back of a gold medal in the Redditch box cup, Walsh was very confident and started very quickly, throwing everything he had at Harmison.

However, the attack was short lived as Harmison avoided his punches and countered with quality shots, taking over the round comfortably. The second and third round started the same but had the same outcome as Harmison used his strength and ability to take a very clear points win to end his season.

Joe Tyers, National Class 1 Champion and England representative, attended an England squad training camp last weekend, for selection into the European Championships to represent England. The club are waiting for confirmation of Joe’s inclusion in the team.
