ASHINGTON golfer Ken Ferrie is celebrating his third title win on the European Tour – and first in more than six years.
Ferrie birdied the first play-off hole to win the Austrian Open on Sunday, his first Tour win since the European Open in 2005.
And it was an early birthday present for the Newbiggin golfer, who celebrates his 33rd birthday on September 28.
Ferrie, pictured, missed a seven-footer for a birdie at the last while playing partner and fellow Englishman Simon Wakefield made his par, with both finishing on 12-under to force a play-off.
But at the first play-off hole, Ferrie hit a superb six iron from a difficult lie in light rough to within four-feet and was able to make the birdie to claim the title, while Wakefield two-putted for a bogey five.
Ferrie said: “I feel amazing. I haven’t won for six years and I was wondering if it was ever going to happen.
“It means the world to me. I have been working hard and doing all the right things but I just haven’t had the results to back it up.”
