The Blyth Valley Pool Association, sponsored by Breakers Pool Bar, completed its seventh week of fixtures.
Over the next month the teams will be battling it out to see who will be in pole position after the first round of fixtures.
Irish A 8 Bedlington Station 4
Two giants of the BVPA Super-League went head to head at the Irish Club this week. The Station were the only team to beat the Irish A last season, but they couldn’t repeat the result as the Irish A took an 8-4 home win to maintain their 100% winning run to the season with 55 points, the Irish A remain in top spot. The match was full of top quality pool & the margins between winning & losing frames was very fine & the match could have been even closer. Highlights of the match were Irish B debutante Jamie Barbour smashing a hat trick of points. Matt Brannan & John Wilson Snr won both their 2nd singles with a break & dish. Team captain Jason Ritson may be getting splinters sitting on the bench as stand in Captain Gary Spooner is doing a fantastic job. The Station drop 2 places to 5th with 42 points.
Comrades B 10 Side Club 2
The Comrades B won both sets of singles 4-1 & then took both doubles to secure the victory & close the gap at the top of the table. A 8-ball clearance from Gary Wilson in the 1st set & another from Kevin McGarry in the 2nd set were the highlights of the Match. Both players were contenders for the Man of the Match honour which Kevin Mcgarry edged after get his 1st 3 point haul of the season. The Comrades James Taylor was also 100% from his 2 singles wins. Ronnie Smith & Davy Hewitson won the Side Clubs points with singles wins. The Comrades B moved up 1 place to 2nd with 49 points, whilst the Side Club dropped 2 places to 10th with 29 points.
Seahorse B 5 Sports C 7
Another Classic match between 2 of the Super Leagues top teams saw the Sports C win by the narrowest of margins in taking a 7-5 away victory. It could have been even worse for the Seahorse B who were 6-1 down & fought back to win 4 of the last 5 frames. Mark Lillico was the man of the Match with the only 3 point haul of the night. Alan Erridge produced the highlight of the match with a break & Dish in the singles. The result saw the Seahorse B drop 1 place to 3rd with 45 points & the Sports C climbed 1 place to 5th with 43 points.
Sports Club B 5 Seahorse A 7
Another close match decided by the narrowest of margins as the Seahorse A secured their 2nd win of the season & saw the move up to 6th place with 35 points. The Sports B search for a 1st victory continues & they remain in 11th place with 27 points. A clearance from a dry break from David Brown was the Highlight of the match. Steve Adams, another BVPA debutante made a great start to his BVPA season with a brace of points for the Seahorse A.
Sun Inn A 6 Irish B 6
With both teams separated by 1 place in the table, a close match was always on the cards & so it proved that after 12 frames of pool, the teams could not be separated & the scoreline finished 6-6. The Scores were tied at 5-5 after the Singles & then Mark McCann & Lee Cook broke & dished the 1st doubles only for the Irish B to punish missed chances in the final frame. Despite the result both teams actually moved up 1 place this week. The Irish B are now in 8th place with 32 points, whilst the Sun A are 9th with 30 points. Unusually for a drawn game, there were 3 contenders for the Man of the Match honours, For the Irish Paul Johnson 3 from 3, Paul Thompson 2 from 2 only just lost out to Mark McCann & Lee Cook whose hat trick of wins & a scotch doubles clearance from the break edged the award in their favour.
The Comrades A had a bye this week & results elsewhere saw them drop 1 position to 7th with 33 points.
Breakers A 10 Sports A 2
Breakers Bar was buzzing on Thursday night with a double header of home games. Premier League leaders Breakers A maintained top spot with 51 points after a comfortable 10-2 home victory over the Sports A, The Sports A remain in 11th place with 23 points as the search for their 1st victory of the season continues. Tammy Bingham was the Sports A’s Star player with a 2 point haul. Man of the Match honours were shared by the home teams Captain Dan Patterson & Trevor Brewis, team mates Kev Harnett 2/3, Gav Slaughter 2/2 & Gregg Robinson 2/2 all secured a brace of points as Breakers continue to take care of Business in the Premier League.
Breakers C 7 Hastings Arms 5
Breakers C moved up 1 place to 4th after a competitive 7-5 home win against the Hastings Arms. Paul Jobson & Mac McPherson were the Men of the Match with a 100% record from their 3 frames. Darren Hall & James Stewart chipped in with a singles win each for Breakers C. Stuart Crane with 3 from 3 shared the Man of the Match honours & Kev Bailey with 2 from 2 were the Hastings Star Players Despite the result, the Hastings remain in 7th place with 36 points.
Cambois Club 8 South Beach CC 4
Another good night of pool played 2 between 2 great teams enjoying the 1st season in the BVPA saw Cambois Club record their 5th win of the season & their 1st win at their new venue. a hat trick of wins for Rory Mander & Anthony Simpson were the difference on the night. A 3 point haul from the South Beach CC’s Kyle Pattison saw him share the Man of the Match honours The victory saw them climb 1 place to 3rd with 47 points. The Community Centre dropped 2 places to 8th with 36 points.
Percy Arms 10 Sun Inn B 2
The Percy Arms are enjoying a roller coaster of a season in the new BVPA Premier League with 3 wins & 3 defeats in their 6 games. A comfortable 10-2 home win against the Sun B saw them move up 2 places to 6th with 37 points. Paul Dodds & Kevin Sams secured a hat trick of wins each, Connor Hickson with a brace of points & a 8-ball clearance was also a 100% on the night The Percy rattled off the 1st 5 frames in quickfire fashion & only 2 singles wins from Adam Scott & Steve Neal spared the Sun B’s blushes. The visitors could even have nicked both doubles to make the score more respectable. The defeat saw the Sun B remain in 10th place with 28 points.
South Beach 4 Wharton Arms 8
A Quality night of pool with equally quality hosts, the South Beach ensured the match was played in a great spirit. Robert Fairbairn was the hosts star player with 2 wins from 3. Freddy Chambers & Andrew Cunningham were the Men of the Match for the visitors with a hat trick of wins apiece. Christopher Stone & Jamie Spratt chipped in with a brace of points each to secure the game. The Wharton remain the only team in the Premier League with a 100% winning record. Another hard fought victory saw them move up a position into 2nd place with 47 points. The South Beach maintained 9th place with 31 points.
The Sports D team had their bye this week &results elsewhere saw them drop 3 places to 5th with 41 points.
