Ashington High School pupil Jason Nicholson has been called up by British Athletics to participate in their Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme.

This follows his performances in the Under-17 men’s 100m hurdles last year.

He finished No. 1 in the UK rankings for the event following wins at the English Schools Athletics Championships (Gateshead), Schools International Athletic Board’s Home International (Grangemouth), England Atheletics Championships (Bedford) and the Sainsbury’s School Games (Manchester).

The Gateshead Harrier and Northumberland Schools’ athlete now holds his club record (12.93) and county record (13.31) for the event.

Jason has also been given a support award by the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund in recognition of his achievements and to support his progression to junior level.
