BLYTH Running Club recently held the first race in their Summer Cup –a series of six 2.5-mile races following a route using the promenade and the beach path.
The runners had a southerly wind to contend with, otherwise conditions were excellent for running and there was another good turn-out of over 40 finishers.
As usual the lead changed hands several times, but with half a mile to go Steff Ramsay was leading from Alison Lowes with John Mallon in third place.
Lowes managed to overtake Ramsay but with the finishing line in sight she was just pipped by Mallon who won by one second from Lowes with Ramsay third.
The fastest male was Robbie Barkley in 13:47 and fastest female was Julie Clark in 16:11, which is a new female vet course record by nine seconds.
The next race in the series is Wednesday, June 29, and is open to all paid up club members over the age of 13.
Today (Thursday) Blyth will have more more than 50 runners in the Blaydon Races.
