A young athlete has picked up his club’s first monthly award of its kind.
Blyth Juniors, part of Blyth Running Club, have introduced a new ‘Athlete of the Month’ award with the first winner being Josh Fiddaman.
Josh won it in January for his performance in the Northumberland Schools Cross Country where he won a bronze medals, which led him to being called up into the North East Counties Athletics Association squad to run the Inter Counties at Birmingham this month.
Elsewhere, the first race in Blyth Running Club’s Grand Prix – which consists of 12 races – was the Snake Lane Ten mile in Pocklington, approximately ten miles east of York.
More than 30 members from Blyth made the journey to compete on the course around the rural lanes of Pocklington, which is fast and flat with only three mild hills in the later stages although the strong winds made the last four miles challenging.
First back for Blyth was Brad Clough with a top 20 finish, and with Lee Cuthbertson and Jon French recording finishes in the first 50, they took the third team place in a high quality field.
The fastest Blyth Lady was Leanne Herron, while Heather Christopher and Cath Young both took prizes in their ages categories.
On Sunday, April 6, Blyth Running Club will be holding the ‘Spirit Of The Staithes’ 10 kilometre run from Blyth Quayside at 10am.
The club have limited the number of entries to 600. Entry forms are available at Blyth Sports Centre and other sports centres in the region or online at www.blythrunningclub.co.uk
