An Ashington girl won four gold medals and set two new national records in a major championship event.
Laura Cook, a member of Billingham Forum Lifesaving Club and Newcastle Swim team, enjoyed the success in the Royal Lifesaving Society’s National Lifesaving Speed Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
She broke the national records in both the 100 metre rescue medley and 50 metre manikin rescue.
Cook was competing in the girls aged 12 to 14 category and finished fifth top under-18 competitor in the country aged 14.
As a result of her amazing swims she has been selected for the Great Britain performance squad for the second consecutive year.
Her ambition is to compete for Great Britain in the European and World Championships.
Heather Leighton, the Billingham club head coach, said: “We are immensely proud of Laura and everything she is achieving in and out of the pool.
“It is fantastic to see her hard work and dedication paying off.
“Laura was the only competitor to break two national records in the championships, showing how superb her swims were.
“As a club we are excited to see what Laura does next, and have know doubt she will be very successful in the future.”
