Lewis through to next round

NEWBIGGIN Boxing Club hosted the Tyne Tees Wear Junior ABA final at the leisure centre last weekend.

Lewis Scott was the club’s only finalist, up against a strong Joe McBride from Redcar.

There was a good turnout of supporters to see the only local boxer in the final, and they were not disappointed.

Four rounds of action saw the fight swing both ways, mainly in Scott’s favour including a clean straight left hand that sent McBride to the canvas.

The pace was tough and both boxers were slowing going into the fourth and final round, Scott emerging the deserved winner by only a point. The final score 22-21, the highest scoring fight of the night.

He now takes on Manchester’s Zac Burton, in Manchester.

Burton is last year’s champion and European silver medallist.

Scott said he is confident as Burton is no way as strong as McBride was.
