Blyth Running club recently held the 12th running of the annual Junior Autumn Relays, with each team member having to cover a distance of one mile.
On a clear, fine night for running there was 16 teams on the start line with the ages ranging from eight to 17.
The winning team was Jack McDonagh, Scarlett Carling and Liam Marsh.
McDonagh ran the first leg and had his team in first place as he passed onto Carling, with Emily McKeeken in second place and Ashton Glover in third.
Carling held onto the lead and give third leg runner Marsh a commanding advantage which he never lost.
Running the third leg for his team, Jake Masterman set the fastest time as he moved his team up from sixth to second, with Erin Scott setting the fastest time by a girl.
Blyth provides opportunities for young athletes between the ages of eight and 17 to receive coaching in endurance athletics events, sprints, throws and jumping events.
All coaching is by qualified UK Athletics coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.

Blyth juniors’ main training night is a Monday, with a high jump session on a Thursday evening.
