Mixed fortunes for Ashington boxers

There were mixed fortunes for two junior Ashington boxers recently.

In only his second fight after coming off a win, Kieran Howe was up against George Clark from Aycliffe ABC at the King Owsy Workingmen's Club in Hartlepool.

In what was a close contest, Howe gave a good account of himself but lost on a split decision.

The return bout is scheduled for Friday, December 4, at Aycliffe.

At Trimdon Colliery Toothill ABC show, Josh Johnstone, who entered the ring with three consecutive wins this season under his belt, faced host boxer Lee Pearson.

Again it was a good contest, but with Pearson the much taller boxer, it took a bit of time for the Ashington junior to work things out.

But once he did he delivered some relentless body shots and good inside work.

Johnstone upped the pace and continued his unbeaten run with a unanimous win.

Ashington coach Alan Buller said: “Kieran and Josh boxed well and are a credit to their club.
