ASHINGTON Junior boxer Jake Murray competed in his second fight of his young career at Park Hotel in Tynemouth.

The 13-year-old’s opponent was Stephen Powell, of Horden Amateur Boxing Club, who stood in at the last minute when Murray’s opponent pulled out.

Powell boasted a good record of three wins from four bouts and it was to be a good test for Murray to make the step up and try and find his first win.

The first round saw both boxers go toe to toe with Murray slightly edging it.

Murray continued into the second and third with good fast combinations, forcing his opponent back with some good jabs and uppercuts.

Murray went on to receive a unanimous verdict.

Coach Alan Buller said that Murray had been a credit to the club and the hard training had paid off.
